Music, and especially jazz, is, because it is improvised, a slew of impulses and 'reactions'. Bop means dancing but also moving in jargon. The decisive currents of “Bop” in history have this particularity: a determining role of the drums and a rich harmony, first tonal, with Be-Bop and then modal with Hard-Bop. The Soft-Bop of “Trippers” is part of this continuity, with the particularity that no use is made of the drums and that the rhythmic role is left to three harmonic instruments: the alto sax, the guitar and the double bass. The trio is resolutely acoustic and plays with 'Bops' codes, whether it is 'Be' or 'Hard'. What emerges is colourful and expressive music.
